In what stands as probably the best year of three-year-olds seen in Australia in the last fifty years, Saintly holds a very special place. His victory in the 1996 Australian Cup was something to behold only to be followed, and bettered, by his last stride victory in the 1996 Cox Plate leading into Bart's most special and 10th Melbourne Cup victory.
Saintly was bred, owned and raced by Bart, with his ownership shared by, amongst others, his long time friend and supporter Dato Tan Chin Nam. Saintly is now in retirement at Princes Farm where he was raised, and which is located on the banks of the Nepean River at Castlereagh, New South Wales
